The Shropshire YHA Walking and Cycling Group
Hostelling for Fun
Come and see the countryside in a new way with a YHA Local Group; we offer fun and company as we explore together the great outdoors. Make new friends while you enjoy the open air, and at the end of the day relax in the cheerful friendly comfort of a Youth Hostel. You're Never Alone
The great thing about YHA Local Groups is the easy relaxed company of people who, like you, enjoy being out of doors on the hills, by river, lake or seashore, striding over the downs, cycling through leafy lanes or just idly exploring our country towns and villages. Our Groups are made up of friendly YHA members of all ages, always ready to welcome newcomers. The Shropshire YHA Walking & Cycling Group
Established in 1979, the aim of the Group is to enable and encourage Shropshire people of all ages and with similar interests who enjoy the outdoor life and the countryside, and who like travelling to new and exciting places, to take part in hostelling trips and other social activities.
The group usually self-caters and new members may wish to do the same. Don't forget you will also need food and drink to refresh you at lunch time while we are out walking.
During our hostelling weekends the Group's principal activity is walking, however this does not preclude people from joining us who may prefer to spend their time enjoying other activities like photography, bird watching or just plain sightseeing during the daytime, and then meeting up with the group in the evening for the company.
A newsletter is published, showing the group's hostelling and social programme for the coming four months. Transport on our hostelling weekends can often be provided for new members who do not have their own. In such cases it is usual for members who share a car to share the cost of the petrol etc.
Clothing and Footwear
As it is more than likely that we will meet plenty of muddy paths on our walk, stout shoes or proper walking boots should be worn on our weekend trips, together with good woollen socks. If possible you should wear woollen trousers as denim jeans will not keep you warm if you get wet.
An anorak and jumper are necessary at all times of the year as well as rain proof clothing. You will also need a rucksack to carry your wet weather clothing and your packed lunch. A change of clothing for wearing in the evening will also be necessary.Designed and Hosted by UKPages.org
